digiPlaySpace Educator Workshops
TIFF Kids' digiPlaySpace returns in 2013! Come in March for an even more immersive workshop experience, or pair a class visit with a film during TIFF Kids (April 9–21, 2013).
The TIFF Kids digiPlaySpace is an interactive adventure where students will engage with emerging creative media technologies and innovative artistic experiences! This hands-on adventure supports diverse learning styles through opportunities for differentiated instruction. Classes will encounter and interact with novel technologies — boosting new-media literacy in support of the science, social studies, math and language arts curricula.
This year, students will explore digiPlaySpace from behind the scenes in order to gain a better understanding of the creativity and technology involved in each installation. Teachers attending the digiPlaySpace will gain access to lesson ideas and online videos to engage their classes back at school.
Book your class for a digiPlaySpace workshop, offered exclusively from March 19 to April 5, 2013.
Behind the Scenes: Weather
Half-day
Grades: 1–4
$8 per student
Using green-screen technology, interactive projections and the Scientific Inquiry Continuum — as outlined in the Ontario Curriculum — students will discover how technology helps us understand weather on a daily basis and how, with a bit a bit of creativity, it can also help us develop our own digital weather simulations.
Curriculum Connections: Language, Science and Technology
Behind the Scenes: Projection
Half-day
Grades: 5–8
$8 per student
In this half-day workshop, junior and intermediate students will explore the point where film and interactive media intersect: projection. From shadow puppets and 8mm film to media installations and video games, the projector plays a vital role in how we interact with the digital world around us.
By exploring how projectors at TIFF Bell Lightbox are used to show film — and manipulated to create immersive experiences in the digiPlaySpace — students will witness the evolution of technology firsthand and discover how projectors will be used in the future.
Curriculum Connections: Language, Science and Technology
Behind the Scenes: Music
Full-day
Grades 1–8
$12 per student
In this full-day workshop, classes will explore how the process of making music has evolved over time. Using their bodies, simple instruments made from found objects, downloadable apps and immersive digital media technologies, students will discover the artistry, collaboration and technology involved in creating their own piece of music using ancient, traditional and computer-based instruments.
Curriculum Connections: Music, Social Studies, Language, Science and Technology
