The Double Life of Veronique
The Wizard of Oz
Your favourite Festival programmer who is not you:
Elizabeth Muskala: she programmes great kids’ films that I can take my son to.
Piers Handling: I always look forward to his selections from Poland and Italy.
The strangest place you’ve ever watched a film:
What do you do for the rest of the year when you aren’t programming for the Festival?
I’m a mom to two young boys (ages 1 and 5)—well, I’m a mom all year round, 24 hours a day, but in the off-season it’s all about them. I also sit on juries and do some guest speaking.
This marks Agata Smoluch Del Sorbo's fourth year as a programmer on the Canadian feature film selection team. Since joining TIFF in 2004, she has held several positions including head programmer for the Toronto International Film Festival's Canadian short film section, Manager of Canadian Programming, Manager of Programme Administration, and international programming associate for the Festival's Italian selection; she has also curated programmes for the Festival's Future Projections.
Smoluch Del Sorbo has sat on juries for The National Screen Institute, imagineNATIVE Film + Media Arts Festival, Women in Film and Television, TIFF Talent Lab and Canada's Top Ten features and shorts. Her essay on director Patricia Rozema appears in the recently published book, The Gendered Screen: Canadian Women Filmmakers. Prior to joining TIFF, she served as a lecturer in American cinema at the University of Genova in Italy. Smoluch Del Sorbo holds a Master of Arts in Cinema Studies from York University.
