Superman (Christopher Reeve) battles three equally superpowered Kryptonian villains in this darker and even more spectacular sequel to the original blockbuster.
While saving the day once again, Superman (Christopher Reeve) inadvertently releases three vicious Kryptonian criminals — General Zod (Terence Stamp), Ursa (Sarah Douglas) and Non (Jack O'Halloran) — from the interdimensional prison to which they had been sentenced by his father Jor-El. Arriving on Earth with the same powers as Superman, the terrible trio team up with Lex Luthor (Gene Hackman) to seek revenge on the son of their jailer — who, meanwhile, has decided to give up his powers in order to marry and have a normal life with his sweetheart Lois Lane (Margot Kidder). Though plagued by behind-the-scenes controversy &mdash original director Richard Donner was fired by the producers and replaced by Richard Lester, with the final film featuring scenes shot by both — Superman II emerged as a fantastic follow-up to its mighty predecessor, with the Man of Steel's showdown with the Kryptonian villains on the streets of Metropolis a particular highlight.
