Acclaimed Canadian science-fiction filmmaker Vincenzo Natali unpacks David Lynch's nightmarish first feature Eraserhead in a Master Class on the director's surrealist style.

Canadian director Vincenzo Natali joins us October 9 to lead a Master Class on David Lynch's legendary surrealist horror masterpiece Eraserhead (1977). The night includes an extended lecture and post-screening discussion and Q&A.

Natali burst onto the scene in 1997 with his surreal, low-budget sci-fi thriller Cube. The film impressed viewers and critics alike with Natali's ability to stretch cinematic boundaries on a shoestring budget; it also received multiple Genie nominations for art direction, sound, and an original score, and in time became a cult favourite. Natali followed up Cube with Cypher (2002) and Nothing (2003), the latter described by Natali as "a buddy comedy set in a void." The director contributed a segment to the film à sketches Paris Je T'aime (2006), alongside the Coen Brothers, Alexander Payne and Gus Van Sant. Natali's more recent sci-fi thriller Splice (2009), starring Adrien Brody and Sarah Polley, premiered at the Sundance Festival and went on to receive wide critical acclaim netting four Genie nominations, including a nod for Best Achievement in Direction.
