In a seemingly utopian, post-apocalyptic society whose inhabitants peacefully consent to disintegration at age 30, a rebel (Michael York) goes on the run from his preordained fate, in this sparkling digital restoration of the sci-fi cult classic.
New digital restoration!
In the post-apocalyptic year 2274, the remnants of humanity live in a seemingly idyllic society underneath a giant dome, which protects them from the supposedly poisonous atmosphere outside. While there's almost no work, crime or poverty, citizens can only live to the age of thirty, at which time a crystal in their palm flashes red and signals their inclusion in a ritual called "Carousel," which concludes with their vapourization. Those that flee this ordained fate are called Runners, and are hunted down by executioners known as Sandmen. When Logan 5 (Michael York), a top Sandman, learns that there may in fact be something beyond the walls, he and his sultry companion Jessica 6 (Jenny Agutter) risk everything to avoid their own appointment with Carousel. An almost overly ambitious sci-fi epic, Logan's Run has gained a cult following for its inventive special effects (which won a special Academy Award®), its still-resonant theme of youth in revolt against a conformist culture, and, of course, its spiffy jumpsuits. Slated to be remade in the near (non-apocalyptic) future by Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn, Logan's Run is presented here in a sparkling new digital restoration.
