After a seemingly fatal shootout with police, a voodoo-schooled serial killer (Brad Dourif) continues his murderous career by transferring his spirit into the tiny plastic body of a doll named Chucky, in this cheerfully ridiculous and plentifully gory horror romp.
Six-year-old Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) wants a Good Guy doll more than anything, and begs his mother Karen (Catherine Hicks) to get him one for his birthday. It's the sort of gift she normally wouldn't be able to afford, but when she finds one cheap she jumps at the opportunity. What Andy's mom doesn't know is that Andy's new friend, "Chucky," contains the soul of serial killer Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif), which the voodoo-schooled slasher was able to transfer to the doll after being fatally wounded in a shootout with police. Three-foot-tall plastic body or no, Ray has no plans to stop killing any time soon — and if he can find a new human host in the meantime, so much the better. Coming relatively late to the slasher game, Child's Play delighted horror fans with its cheerfully ridiculous premise, plentiful gore, and Dourif's creepily funny vocal performance as the potty-mouthed demon doll.
