Youssou NDour.jpgMark Rabinowitz, a co-founder of Indiewire, is blogging these days at
Docsider. He answers our call for three TIFF picks, but can't stop at just three...

1. The People Speak: I was lucky enough to see a sort of live version of this in Denver at the recently concluded Democratic National Convention and I can't think of a more important film to be produced this year. I only wish there was a way to force every American to watch it. I am killing myself to not be able to make it up there.

2. A Time To Stir: My mother wrote a book called "Confrontation On Campus"about the events at Columbia University in 1968 and I can't wait to see this film. This looks to be one of those films that I mean when I say that
documentary films record history. We can't allow events such as these to be
forgotten.

3. Religulous: Organized religion is stupid. It's the opiate of the masses and has caused far more harm than good throughout the history of the world. That's what I believe and good luck changing my mind but please notice, I wrote organized religion. I am not castigating everyone who believes in god, just the overall institutions.

4. Youssou Ndour: I Bring What I Love (pictured above right):Chai's a friend, but more importantly, I am a fan of Ndour and world music.

Ok, that's 4, but really, I have to mention At the Edge of the World; The Biggest Chinese Restaurant in the World; The Dungeon Master (I was a D&D geek. I know, quelle surprise!), Paris, Not France (This woman and all surrounding her make me ill and I kind of want to know more); The Real Shaolin (I was a kung fu/Bruce Lee nut as a teen)...Oh crap. I gotta stop, since I am not going to make it up there and let's face it...there are a lot of intriguing films screening.... I will catch up in the following months, though!
