Hey everyone - my name is Warren Sonoda and I've had the pleasure to direct a tasty 'lil comedy called
Coopers' Camera which I hope will also please the TIFF audience this year!
Love the idea of these blogs on the TIFF site - and I remember eagerly reading my buddy Rob Stefaniuk's blog for Phil The Alien when it preme'd at TIFF 04 thinking... one day it might be me... well, that day is here!
Getting into TIFF as a filmmaker is an incredible moment in the life of your film. Not only because I live and love Toronto, but it just means your work is suddenly going to be seen by some of the best film fans and (hopefully) other filmmakers in the fest. I know when our team (shout outs to Jason Jones & Mike Beaver who star in the film and wrote the funniest script I ever read, Sean Buckley, Nicholas Tabarrok and John Kozman our fearless producers) found out we were in the fest this year - it was the first moment we had to sit back, take a deep breath and savour the filmmaking experience fully.
There are four films within a film - the Film of the Script, the Film of the Shoot, the Film of the Edit and finally, the Film that we Show to the World; each one is completely different and has its own set of challenges - and it's these worlds I hope to talk to you guys about in my future blog posts!
Right now, I just want to savour the moment of being asked to do my very own TIFF blog for Canada First! (I think all of us filmmakers feel the same way) --- it's been a long, crazy and incredibly rewarding road - never easy, always surprising and a marathon, not a sprint.
Until the next post - Shoot Good Film. WPS
