After announcing the Real to Reel line-up on Tuesday, I asked programmers from other film festivals to name three docs they were anticipating and why. The first response comes from Matt Dentler, an active
blogger and programmer of the wonderful
SXSW Film Festival in Austin, TX:
1. ENCOUNTERS AT THE END OF THE WORLD by Werner Herzog
I'll see anything Herzog does. But when it's his first big
documentary after the brilliant GRIZZLY MAN, consider me first in line.
2. MY ENEMY'S ENEMY by Kevin Macdonald
Ditto what I said about Herzog, for Macdonald. He's already proven
himself an amazing doc filmmaker in a relatively short period of
time. He has an impressive track record, and the subject matter
promises more fascinating material from one of the UK's best
documentarians.
3. A JIHAD FOR LOVE by Parvez Sharma
I've been tracking this project for a while, and cannot wait to
finally see it. It sounds like heavy material but I'm looking forward
to seeing how it's handled.Pictured: A JIHAD FOR LOVE
